The American Association of School Librarians just announced that our official title is "school librarian".
"The leadership of AASL says the title “school librarian”
sufficiently reflects the role of the 21st-century library
professional as a leader, instructional partner, information
specialist, teacher, and program administrator."

To be honest I always had a hard time with "Media Specialist"...people do not know what "media" means. Of course, I still get call lots of other names like Li-berry Teacher, Library Lady, their teacher's name, my assistant's name or even the AP's name because it sounds like "Bell". I've even been called "mom" a few times. That was nice.
I wonder if I should stop calling the "Library" the "Library Media Center" now?

In all my years honestly I verbally refered to myself as a librarian and that shared space a Library. Have you heard of David Loertscher's push for the Library to be called Learning Commons. Sorry but we do not say we are going to see (insert specialist name) for doctor--we just say "going to the doctor." So ther is nothing wroing with being a librarians working in a library. But I will continue to sign emails and write in forms that I am a Teacher Librarian, just tor emind the powers that be that um, yeah, I do really teach too.

I like the term "school librarian" because it best reflects what you do. Great Article! You are right about media specialist, but many get offended by being called a librarian.....

Well, I am glad that they decided on that point. Yes, I teach English-but I am really a closet librarian! At least that is what I want to be in my next career. Somehow I think that I better get this started!
